Courts fill in arrival order: first four on Tier 1, last four in the gulag. Up to 4 subs wait on the gulag.
Starting matchups are random.
Win and you level up a tier. Lose and you drop a tier.
Win on Tier 1 and you stay on the court.
Lose in the gulag and you’re subbed off with your teammate.
With 3 subs, the pair who just lost in the gulag play a best-of-3 point slam while they sit out. The winner takes the second sub spot next round.
After every game you face your old teammate: whether you went up, came down, stayed on Tier 1 or subbed back on. Flip the racket or pick the teams yourself; either way you partner someone from the other pair.
